I am continually amazed at our President’s brazen hypocrisy. As you know, President Obama authorized the bombing of Libya as a result of Gaddafi attacks on the opposition. Let’s examine his past and present positions on unilateral authorization for military attacks.
Barack Obama, said in late 2007:
“The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.” (Dec 20, 2007 Boston Globe)
Now, four years later he states that he has full constitutional authority to authorize a military act without approval from Congress:
“[I] directed these actions, which are in the national security and foreign policy interests of the United States, pursuant to my constitutional authority to conduct U.S. foreign relations and as Commander in Chief and Chief Executive.” (Today, in a letter to Congress)
Clearly by his 2007 definition, there was no actual or imminent threat to the United States. So why the change in position?
I’m not debating the merits of the President Obama’s decision to bomb Libya, just merely pointing out his hypocrisy. When is he going to stop campaigning and start leading. Does he believe anything that he says? Does he have any guiding principles that he uses for making decisions or does he just follow the polls and popular opinion. Whether you are liberal or conservative his inconsistency and hypocrisy should be a concern for you. If you don’t know what he believes or what he stands for how can you support him?
